mood enhancing commerce
sub-titled: how i spent my christmas money
it started at the apple store. since mr. jobs decided not to launch any new ipods earlier this week, i was on the fence about what to do. knowing that a new ‘pod update was probably going to hit some time in spring, i finally decided to just wait and hope that my mini didn’t shoot craps at me before that day came.
yesterday it shot craps.
today, i bought a new one. i was on the fence about nano v. full sized, but my mini’s about the size of a full sized (in weight and thickness, anyway), so that knocked out any real “it’s too big” concerns and i opted for the storage boost/video capabilites of the big ones. i then had one of those “well, for an extra $100 i could get almost 3 times the space and i might need all of that one day.” to be fair, my music collection is about 60gb right now, but most of it is enhanced by the collections of others and their tastes in music are not all that compatible with mine (read: it’s all crap). once i caught a glimpse of the 20hrs of playback for 80gb and only 14 for 30gb, my decision was made. 6 extra hours and 50 extra GB is worth an extra $100 (especially considering it’s all christmas money anyway). i went with white, because while the black is sexier, the white is accessorizier, and more commerce is sexier than sexy ;)
the next stop of the day was nordstroms, to which i had been given a gift card with the express direction to buy a pair of shoes i would not have bought otherwise. after scouring the place and trying on about 8 or 9 different pairs of shoes, i found two i really liked. one pair was going to make the gifter proud (i hope anyway), but the other (in olive) was going to need a case made for them. they are green and wedges and have a high-enough heel, but they are by no means red patent leather pumps like the first pair.
had my husband not been there, enjoying my squealing, i would have made a choice, but since he was, and encouraged me to get both, i did. a leopard print pair was also in the running, but was a distant third, and i would not have felt good about getting all 3, even with ryan’s encouragement (and i have a sneaking suspicion he might have: he’s good like that). i may pick them up later in the season, if some more magic cash falls into my lap. as it was, that pretty much exhausted what was left of my christmas money.
