how to make procrastination work for you
i have one thing that i want/needed to do over my 2 day vacation. i have not done it yet, and my vacation is about 3 hours away from being “over” because ryan will be home from work.
it’s a relatively simple thing. i have an absurd amount of clothes i either don’t wear, or wear only when i’m slacking on laundry. these need to go away. the startup on this project should be about 2 hours. then there will be a bit more as i discover boxes of old clothes in the basement, launder them and sort them. that bit of the task can trickle over the next couple of weeks, but it really needs to be started.
plus, i can’t go buy new clothes (for my new job) until i have a solid inventory in my head.
you’d think that’d be enough motivation, right? it’s not. here’s what i’ve done over the last 2 days instead:
- posted an over-due blog post or two
- taken two really nice long hot showers
- vacuumed
- cleaned up the kitchen
- done yoga off a dvd (twice)
- some more exercises from this article
- and finally, weeded all our pretty landscaping
that last one? that’s when i knew i had a problem. it’s not that labor intensive of an activity thanks to the weedbarrier that most of the weeds were growing on top of, but it was outside where the bugs and the dirt live. and i hate bugs and dirt. i also broke 3 nails fairly severely.
but the yard looks pretty.
…closet is still over-flowing with clothes though. maybe tomorrow?
